.MoD STEREO VIEWER

MPP Stereo Viewer

MPP made a Stereo Viewer for the MoD to be used for inspecting aerial photographs. Pairs of images were taken on rolls of 70mm film. They did not make a stereo camera however as this was by AGI.

Film ran through the camera continuously the speed and shot inervals being computed from ground speed and altitude data. Pairs of pictures were taken at intervals that gave a slight overlap with its neighbours thus providing complete ground coverage.

When withdrawn they were sold off at auction and fetched around £150

FILM AND SLIDE PROJECTORS

Early postwar MPP made two projectors, possibly initially to examine mass X-Ray records. These seem to be scarce and have not been seen.(Adverts B.J.A.1948, p457) They were listed in News For Photographers, No2.

Model 1

This had a smooth outer surface, and used a 100w lamp.

It was fitted to take film strips.

FILM STRIP PROJECT (1949)

Film Strip Projector ... model unknown, as advertised in 1949.

Model 1a

This was the version of:Model 1 for slides.

Lenses were ex Wray Optical and were in 3,4,6in f3.5. Film gates were supplied for 24x36, 24x24, 18x24mm. Lamps were pre-focus types, of 100-300w, and 110,220,230,240volts. Also 6 or 12v D.C.

Model II This was a higher wattage model, with additional ribbing on the surface to lose the extra heat. It seems to have had parts in common with the model 1 other than the casings. It was listed as:

  • Model II for film strips.

  • Model IIa for slides.

MPP also sold projector screens, though it is possible that these were at least in part bought-in items to complete the product range.

Base Plate:

A base plate was supplied to screw to the Tripod 1 to allow it to act as a stand for these projectors.
