HOW TO MAKE replacement rear extension (back) rods for MicroTechnical cameras with the minimum of lathe work.

DOWNLOADABLE engineering drawing.

MADE OF THREE PARTS it does not require the use of a Jabus tool in the lathe.

- METHOD -

1.

Download and save the engineering drawing (rod2.jpg : 182 kB) and print out on A4 paper, portrait format. See footnote.

Suitable materials are Stainless Steel, Bronze or Brass.

3.

An 'Unbrako' M1.6 fastener is used to hold the ball and rod together.

4.

The clearance hole and counter bore for the Unbrako fastener should be made with minimum clearance to preserve strength.

5.

Treat the threads with Loctite when assembling to prevent the parts becoming loose with use.

6.

Unbrako fasteners should be used as they give great strength combined with small size.

NOTE

The engineering drawing appears very large on screen but prints 135mm x 85mm.
