Microcord with the home made filter holder and Jessop filter
It is possible to fit Cokin or Jessop type square filters fairly easily by making an adapter from an old lens hood. A round one is best and as big (wide) as possible. Cut the lens hood back and at right angles to the optical axis. Smooth the cut edge with a file. Fix on the threaded adapter with Araldite or similar epoxy resin adhesive and fit the filter holder in the normal manner. If you don't cut the adapter back far enough you will get vignetting so 'try before you stick' It is best to do this with the whole lot on the camera and the camera on its back in order you can adjust the frame of the holder to align properly with the camera body. The sides of the holder should be parallel with the sides of the camera.
Apply the adhesive and lay the camera on its front with the filter holder attached. Prop the camera in such a way that the alignment of camera to filter holder is correct. |
This ensures no adhesive runs onto the lens or the bayonet fitting while the adhesive is curing. Allow the adhesive to cure. If you wish to keep the ability of rotation do not stick the adapter ring to the square filter holder. One thing to bear in mind is that when using a polarising filter it is necessary to turn the filter through 180 degrees when changing it from the viewing lens to the taking lens as the lens mounts are in opposite orientations. This works very well and allows easy use of every filter imaginable. |
