MicroTechnical
Cameras Mk's I - VII and S92
use the same type of link, one per side, with small
fixing plates and 1mm diameter pins. The above image
is of a MkVII camera and gives the general layout.
The idea is to make both the long track and the body
track move together when required. It is important to
stow the tracks away properly before closing the
camera front or damage will result to the tracks and
break one or both links.
The thin end of the link is at the body
end, fixed with a 20swg (1mm) pin. At the front there
is a small, usually brass, plate fixed with a 13 BA?
screw. Original links seem to have been made drilled
and countersunk at one end only then perhaps fitted
and the other end drilled to suit.
Links seem to have
been stamped from 20swg stainless steel. A test on a
link showed that a 1mm drill fitted each hole nicely.
Early
Mk I cameras before about
serial number 1100 do not have links the tracks being
seperate and completely unlinked. Cameras that use
links have a small slot in the ends of the tracks
where they meet above the front hinge. No slot indicates there is no
link.
MicroPress cameras use the same links
but the Mk VIII MicroTechnical cameras use a
different type as below.
